Yes, you can fly into Santa Fe. If you’ve been considering a weekend in the City Different, but want to avoid the hassle of flying into Albuquerque and then catching the train, a shuttle or renting a car, flying into Santa Fe is a possibility. There are daily flights to and from Phoenix, Dallas (DFW) and Denver.
I recently purchase tickets to fly to Scottsdale for Thanksgiving and was pleasantly surprised to find that the fares were less expensive than the same flight from Albuquerque. When you figure in an hour plus driving time and parking fees at Albuquerque International, Fly Santa Fe seems like a no brainer.
Did I mention that parking in Santa Fe is only $3 per day? Of course, the long term lot is at least ten feet further from the (very small) terminal than short term, but the entertainment value of having purchasing your ticket and checking your bags with the same person who loads the plane and then signals the pilot in for a landing is well worth any inconvenience.
So here’s my New Mexico travel tip of the week – Fly into Santa Fe. If you live here, or in northern New Mexico, fly out of Santa Fe. We all love the Albuquerque airport with their beautiful artwork and great food. I just want you to know that there a very viable alternative.
