New Mexico was one of the last territories in the West to gain statehood (1912), in part because Congress thought we were all a bunch of Mexicans and Indians hanging out in the wilderness of the desert, waiting to pollute the U.S. with our wild and crazy customs. Now called the Land of Enchantment for good reason, New Mexico is still frequently mistaken for a foreign country. Lucky for you (and for those of us who live here), it sometimes has the feel of a foreign country without the inconvenience of having to show your passport to get in. Travel here and you’ll see all but one temperate zone (sorry, no tropical), eat food like nowhere else (love our green chile), and meet folks from three very distinct but complimentary cultures. This blog is written for anyone who loves our Land of Enchantment, including those of you who are just curious about what life here looks like.
