Pat Dorner of Albuquerque caught this stunning photo of the Comet Neowise over the Rio Grande this week. It’s an amazing image that could only exist in New Mexico!
I borrowed her language from Facebook, because really no one says it better than she does. I love that last line – “These little bits of happiness seem harder to find these days. You just have to know where to look.” Thanks for this, Pat!:
“Decided to jump on the comet Neowise bandwagon after seeing a few amazing pictures last week. Not a big fan of early morning endeavors but wanted to see what all the fuss was about. At 4am, I groggily headed across the street but even in my sleep deprived state noticed something in the sky that looked very promising. Quickly set up my tripod, camera and longest lens then gasped at the beauty in the sky. Talk about a wake up call! It was so magical I could barely contain my excitement. Everyone should see this magnificent cosmic snowball streaking across the sky for themselves. After this month, it won’t return for almost 7,000 years so this is literally your last chance. I always tell the boys to look for the bright spots when life’s getting them down. Those little bits of happiness seem harder to find these days (especially after tax day), but they are out there. You just have to know where to look.
(Full disclosure – The first image is a pano blend of 3 exposures taken on 7-10-20 with a 500mm lens. More art than photography as the light was quickly changing. I made the mistake of pulling out a shorter lens when the light was good but it didn’t do the comet justice! You can see Neowise now an hour and a half after sunset looking towards the NW sky. It’s visible with your eyes but suggest binoculars, a long lens or telescope to really see this beauty in all its glory!)”
Thanks again, Pat, for this beauty and for your generosity in allowing me to share it.
