If you’ve ever eyed a piece of old tin or maybe a turquoise blue car hood, thinking you just might be able to create an art installation with it, this will be the perfect way for you to spend an afternoon in Santa Fe.
The 19th annual Recycle Santa Fe Art Festival begins this Friday with a Trash Fashion and Costumer Contest taking center stage at 7:00 p.m. in the Santa Fe Community Convention Center (201 W. Marcy Street). One of the most interesting fashion shows in the world, this one celebrates the recycled fashion genre in amazing ways, and prizes go to all ages for their creative use of what most of us would see as trash.
The festival continues Saturday (9 –5) and Sunday (10 –5) with over 100 artists from around New Mexico, with a few from Colorado and neighboring states thrown in. The statement that one’s man’s trash is another man’s treasure really shines in this venue, with vintage tin cans turned into jewelry and lamps, car parts turned into sculpture, and old tires turned into artwork.
This is hands down one of my favorite Santa Fe events all year. See you there!
